GWR Announces Silver-Am Line-up for Toyota Supra GT4 Program

GWR Australia has confirmed the driver line-up for its inaugural campaign in the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series, with accomplished amateur racer Tim Berryman to join 19-year-old Daniel Frougas in the Silver-Am Class aboard Toyota’s latest-specification GR Supra GT4 Evo2.

For Frougas, who has previously raced in state and national Formula Ford, GT4 presents an ideal progression pathway for a driver who has his sights set upon the pinnacle of international sportscar racing – the World Endurance Championship.

“Since I was 10 years old, I’ve religiously watched the Le Mans 24 Hour every year and dreamed of being on the grid,” Frougas said.

“When I was very young, I remember watching David Brabham winning the race in a Peugeot and since then, my aim has been to race in the WEC. With the SRO connection to the Australian GT4 Series, it provides the perfect opportunity to showcase my abilities in a sportscar and to use it as an opening for international options.

“We’ve chosen the Toyota product because, as the first one in Australia, there’s a point of difference compared to the other cars in the field, and we’re receiving terrific customer support from Toyota Gazoo Customer Racing in Europe.”

Berryman comes into GT4 with a background rich in open-wheel competition, such as Historic Formula Ford, Formula 5000 and S5000. His tin-top experience includes rounds in the highly-competitive one-make Mazda RX8 Cup Series, while he was also a former front-runner in the Radical Cup Australia Series, where he worked closely with GWR Australia team owner Garth Walden.

“Garth and I have known each other for 20 years, and have always worked well together,” Berryman said.

“Over the last five years, I’ve only been racing sporadically, so I’m excited to join GWR and partner with Daniel for a full season testing and racing program.”

The Frougas/Berryman GT4 entry adds to GWR Australia’s widespread experience in Australian motorsport categories, including GT3, Carrera Cup, Radical Cup and Production Cars, and team owner Walden is upbeat about the team’s prospects in the category.

“GT4 is going from strength to strength at the moment and this year’s field will be super-competitive, but our drivers are up to the task,” Walden said.

“Daniel has already immersed himself in the team – he came with us when we competed in the Dubai and Abu Dhabi endurance events at the beginning of the year, and he’s very keen on pursuing an international career in sports cars; we’d love to help him achieve his goals.

“When we needed an Am driver to join Daniel, Tim was at the top of my list because he’s proven himself as a fast and reliable performer in other categories. He’s only done one test day in the Supra and he was on the pace straight away.”

Walden is expecting the team to attract a lot of the focus during the 2025 season, thanks to the Toyota product.

“As the first car of its type in Australia, the Supra was always going to turn heads, and that’s only going to increase with the anticipation of Toyota entering Supercars in 2026,” Walden said.

“You can already see there’s been a groundswell of support among Toyota fans, and we’re looking forward to whetting their appetite and giving them a car to cheer for this season.”

Long-time GWR engineer Dejan Ninic will engineer the Supra, which will be at Phillip Island for two days of testing this week ahead of the opening round on 4-6 April.
